Privacy Policy for TaleBox: Books & Movies Library

TaleBox is a desktop application for a personal library of books, movies, and TV series. Your library stays on your computer. TaleBox does not require an account, does not sync your library to a cloud service, and does not sell your information.

What stays on your computer

Titles, shelves, ratings, notes, dates, TV season and episode progress, profile names, groups, and settings are stored locally, usually in %APPDATA%\TaleBox\. Cover and poster images loaded during search are cached there.

A JSON backup is created or read only when you choose a file in the App.

Uninstalling TaleBox removes the program. The folder %APPDATA%\TaleBox\ remains until you delete it.

What search sends

TaleBox does not upload your library, ratings, notes, or profile names.

When you search, or when the App loads a cover or poster, it sends the text you typed — a title, author, director, or ISBN — to public catalog services, and downloads the matching details and images. Those services are Open Library, Google Books, knihovny.cz, obalkyknih.cz, Wikidata, Wikipedia, TVMaze, and, when a key is available, TMDB and OMDb. They receive only that search request. Each service handles it under its own privacy policy.

If you enter a TMDB or OMDb API key in Settings, the key is stored on your PC and is sent only to that service during search. You can clear it in Settings.

TaleBox does not use analytics, advertising, or tracking.
